Illegal portion of a 3-star hotel in Ujjain was demolished using explosives by Ujjain Municipal Corporation (UMC) on Wednesday.Hotel Shanti Palace and Clarks-In, reportedly built at a cost of Rs 20 crore, had 100 rooms and was situated at the main Ujjain-Indore four-lane highway. However, the land was procured illegally and was originally meant for a residential colony.

A Delhi court on Wednesday acquitted MLA and gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari and six others accused in the 2005 murder case of BJP leader Krishnanand Rai as all the eyewitnesses and material witnesses turned hostile. The court said had the prosecution witnesses not turned hostile, the outcome of the trial would have been different and highlighted the absence of a witness protection scheme during the trial.

A volcano on the Italian island of Stromboli erupted dramatically on Wednesday, reportedly killing a hiker and sending tourists fleeing.
