Rajiv Gandhi's 75th Birth Anniversary: Watch Sonia, Rahul, Priyanka Pay Tribute

The Congress is organising a host of events across the country to commemorate the 75th birth anniversary of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi. To mark the occasion, the party is organising a commemorative programme at 'Vir Bhumi', the memorial of Rajiv Gandhi in the early morning on August 20, the birth anniversary of the former prime minister. The Indian Youth Congress is also celebrating the occasion by organising nation-wide blood donation camps across its national and state offices.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered tribute to Rajiv Gandhi on his seventy-fifth birth anniversary. Water Released From Hathinikund, Yamuna Crosses Danger-Mark

A portion of the Nigambodh Ghat in east Delhi was flooded on Monday as the Yamuna river breached the danger mark in Delhi in the evening, officials said. The pyres facing the river have turned into islands as Yamuna waters entered the ghat, even as a few people went on with the last rituals of their family members. "Water from the Yamuna has entered the front portion of the ghat, where a few pyres are located. These pyres are out in the open and used generally by people from hill states, who follow their own rituals," a senior EDMC official said.

Raising national security concerns, an RSS-affiliate Sunday demanded that telecommunications be declared a critical and strategic infrastructure sector disallowing foreign firms, especially Chinese companies, to enter. The Swadeshi Jagran Manch (SJM) said India's telecommunications network should be fully indigenised and reserved for domestic companies on security grounds."Telecommunications must be declared a critical and strategic infrastructure vital to India's security. Once this is done, the bans on imports cannot be challenged at the WTO," SJM national co-convener Ashwani Mahajan told PTI.
