Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday recalled his longtime association with former Cabinet colleague Arun Jaitley and said he cannot imagine that he was so far in Bahrain while his dear friend has gone away forever.Jaitley died at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi on Saturday afternoon after battling multiple health issues for the last several months. He was 66. He was admitted there on August 9. "I cannot imagine that I am here in Bahrain while my dear friend Arun Jaitley is no more. Some days ago, we lost our former Defence Minister Behen Sushma Ji. Today my dearfriend Arun went away," Prime Minister Modi said.

Arun Jaitley, the former finance minister and a stalwart of the Bharatiya Janata Party, passed away on Saturday. He was 66. Arun Jaitley was unwell for a large part of the last two years. In 2018, Arun Jaitley underwent a kidney transplant surgery, following which he was put under isolation. Four years earlier, in 2014, Arun Jaitley underwent a bariatric surgery to address the excess weight he had gained due to diabetes. During the Narendra Modi government's first term in office, Arun Jaitley was seen as the prime minister's 'go-to' man. A video of children being served salt and rotis in their mid-day meal at a government-run primary school here has gone viral on social media, prompting the Congress to attack the Uttar Pradesh government. The video is of Siyur Primary School under Jamalpur block and it shows a woman distributing rotis and another woman giving salt to children as the mid-day meal. Authorities suspended two teachers, apparently in an immediate damage control exercise. It was shared widely on social media on Thursday. Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra hit out at the state government on the issue, terming the incident "condemnable" and said the facilities provided by it were becoming very poor. Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) Pravin Kumar Tiwari said on Friday, "Report about the incident was taken from the Block Shiksha Adhikari, Jamalpur, and two teachers found to be prima facie responsible were suspended."

The Jammu and Kashmir government is likely to forbid Rahul Gandhi and other opposition leaders from visiting Srinagar and will send them back from airport, sources on Saturday claimed.The government on Friday night asked asking political leaders not to visit the Valley as it would disturb the gradual restoration of peace and normal life. It also said the visit by politicians would be in violation of restrictions that have been imposed in many areas of the Valley.
