In the recently held state Assembly elections, farm loan waiver turned out to a major factor in deciding the fate of political parties. The dismal state of farmers affected by the unpredictability of monsoons has been a critical issue which has led to anti-incumbency among the farmer class across India. The BJP which ruled the states of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chattisgarh for more than two decades suffered a spree of defeats largely attributed to the growing discontentment of the farmers against the lackadaisical attitude of the government.
