Post India's A-SAT test, NASA expresses concern about space debris
The head of NASA on Tuesday confirmed that India’s anti-satellite (ASAT) missile test in lower earth orbit created debries. Earlier, PM Narendra Modi on Wednesday had announced another feather in India’s cap as the country registered its name in the elite space power list. The country became the only fourth country to demonstrate Anti Satellite capabilities, in a milestone moment for India’s “Mission Shakti”.NASA head branded India's destruction of one of its satellites a "terrible thing" that had created 400 pieces of orbital debris and led to new dangers for astronauts aboard the International Space Station. It is said that the Indian satellite was destroyed at a relatively low altitude of 180 miles (300 kilometers), well below the ISS and most satellites in orbit. But 24 of the pieces "are going above the apogee of the International Space Station."
