Results of Maharashtra & Haryana Assembly elections to be declared today

In Maharashtra, the main parties in the fray are the BJP, Shiv Sena, the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). Assembly Elections in the state is said to be a close battle of two alliances: BJP-Shiv Sena on one hand, and the Congress-NCP on the other. The recently conducted Assembly Elections witnessed a slump in voter turnout compared to 2014 elections with estimated turnout in Maharashtra stood at 58 per cent and in Haryana 64 per cent. Barring few 'sporadic incidences', Deputy Election Commissioner Umesh Sinha said that both the Assembly elections and all the by-elections have been "peaceful and smooth".
