Chhath, celebrated by people belonging to Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh, involves offering prayers by fasting women to the Sun god in knee-deep water. The rituals are spread over three days. The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has prohibited Chhath Puja on the banks of the Yamuna this year, leading to a war of words between the BJP and AAP. However, several devotees were seen taking a dip in Delhi's Yamuna river, which was covered in a thick layer of toxic foam.
